First Impressions: Delta Force

I have been following Delta Force very closely. I am on the Discords, following the Tweets, watching the YouTubes, to get all the details on this upcoming combined arms game. I have been really interested to see how this upcoming free to play title will compete with the king of this genre Battlefield. I am cautiously optimistic for the success of this title. Like someone burned from a bad relationship (WW3 The Game) I am hesitant to love again.
Steam's Next Fest was Oct 14 to Oct 21 and highlighted a large selection of demos for upcoming titles. This was my opportunity to try the Delta Force Demo first hand and get to experience what others have during the closed beta. The demo included Hazard Operations, which is its PVPVE extraction mode and its Havoc Warfare mode (Battlefield). The Black Hawk Down campaign was not available and from what I have read it will not be available until the full release. I also heard that the campaign will be the paid content, where multiplayer will be free to play. Similar to when Halo Infinite came out with the free MP modes. For the demo they also unlocked all the weapons so you could try out all the different assault rifles, SMGs, snipers etc. I got about 8.5 hours into the game; which I think its pretty decent considering I am juggling a full time job, a uni course I started, and my family life. I did not get to try all the features the demo had to offer, but I did get an opportunity to spend a majority of the time in the Havoc Warfare mode. This is the multiplayer mode or battlefield mode that I was most interested in playing. For the most part I was pleasantly surprised.
Overall the game played like if the gun play from Call of Duty MW 2019 had a baby with the gameplay style of Battlefield. The mode I had the most fun with was Attack and Defend which is exactly what it sounds like. One team pushes to get the capture points, take both points and you push the front line. The other team, well, defends. The game uses operators which are class based. One operator is an assault class, one a medic, one is a support, and then your recon characters. Each operator has a special gimmick like wrist launching rockets or little drones that create a smoke screen. They where pretty neat additions to the classes that didn't feel too overpowered or cheap. The squad mechanic is there where you can spawn on your teammates and heal them when they are down. The maps where decent. Cracked is like a Middle Eastern City and Ascension is like this volcanic island where you go from the beach to the mountains. My favourite was cracked as I prefer urban warfare maps; however, there was only two maps to play and they got old fast. I think I would have played longer if there where a few more maps in the rotation. Not a big fan of TTK of this game which I find similar to Battlefield. You have to land a few rounds on a player to kill them. I am one of those guys that nails the first shot, but then stumbles and usually ends up a casualty of war. I know its a skill issue, but it still sucks. The WWII shooter Enlisted has a one to two shot kill system and I find it more enjoyable. Land a solid shot to the chest that soldier is KIA.
I did not spend too much time in the Hazard Operations mode. This is an extraction game mode like DMZ in Call of Duty. Get in, loot safes, take out high value targets, and extract before you end up in a body bag. It has elements of games like Escape from Tarkov, such as the inventory system being very similar. A buddy and I tried this mode a couple times and it wasn't pretty. Lost a lot of equipment out there on the battlefield as we where eliminated by other squads. One round we spawned in and where immediately killed by a player squad. My friend was still loading in, but his avatar was in game and he was killed before he even got to take control. I put up a valiant effort; screaming and shooting blindly, but I too fell. It does seem like a pretty cool mode. You can buy and sell the loot you get from downed enemies and safes in the games auction house. I think the more you play the more missions and maps you unlock. Once the game comes back for early access I hope to get a little more time in that game mode.
Overall, the demo was fun. It filled the void of not getting any new updates for Battlebit Remastered in over 9 months. As of writing this blog the Delta Force Discord announced early access for December 5th 2025. Promising new maps, weapons, and game modes. Smart move to wait until December and let the hype of Call of Duty Black Ops 6 cool down a bit. I still have tempered expectations, but I hope Delta Force is a good one. If its a good and fair product I will spend money on. Also, Black Hawk Down is one of my favourite war movies so it might be hard to resist buying the campaign.
Well that is my first impression of Delta Force. Thank you so much for stopping by and reading the blog and stay safe out there gamers.
