Mission 10: Jabba the Hutt's Ship

Reliving the Classics is a series where I replay a game from my childhood and recap the experience level by level. Be sure to catch up on previous entries in the blog!
As Kyle Katarn is riding the high of stealing the navigation plans and putting that scum filled moon of Nar Shaddaa behind him he is immediately met with a big set back. As the Moldy Crow is pulling away from the moon's surface its caught in the tractor beam of a larger space craft. SURPRISE!! Jabba the Hutt has been working with the Empire allowing them to use his smuggling routes. He cannot have you meddling in this money making venture so he takes the Nava card, all your equipment, jails Jan Ors, and decides to feed you to his favourite Kell Dragon.

So this mission literally starts off with you going 12 rounds bare knuckle boxing in a pit with a 10 foot 800 pound space lizard. Talk about unforgiving. You literally have to beat this thing to death with your bare hands. It is definitely a challenging intro to the level where I did die once before I slayed the dragon. After killing the dragon you need to find a way out of this pit and get your weapons back. The first enemies you meet are thermal detonator throwing Grans. You need to gracefully dodge the explosions and beat them down to obtain a belt of detonators yourself. Those are your main weapon for a bit while you search for your gear. You need to navigate this space yacht to find where they are keeping your equipment. First of let me say who ever is Jabba's interior decorator needs to be fed to the Rancour. The level design in this mission is not the best. The walls are this weird goldish brown mustard that is just awful. Also why is Jabba's private yacht riddled with landmines? Who thought that was a good idea? Talk about workplace hazards for his guards and bounty hunters. Hope they get good benefit packages. So you are winding through the bowels of the ship and you find your gear hanging on a chain in a room I assume is suppose to be part of the ships brig. Now that you are locked and loaded time to find Jan and the navigation card.

The rest of the mission follows the similar formula find the keys that open the doors. I was worried at some point I might walk in on some freaky space orgy. You seen what goes on in Jabba's palace in Return of the Jedi, you know they getting up to some freaky shit. You find the Nava card first so the last part is finding Jan. My favourite part of this level is your above some of the Gamorrean Guards in some areas so I started lobbing thermal detonators at them. It was hilarious listening to the squeal when I got them with a direct hit.
So you making it towards the end of the level and guess what you think happens? That's right another Kell dragon. This time though I was packing heat. I ripped through this thing with my repeater rifle. It didn't stand a chance the poor thing. You finally find Jan in a cell and you are prompted with the end mission dialogue.

Well that was Mission 10 in a nutshell. Only 4 more missions left! Will I finally beat this childhood classic? Or will the Dark Troopers get the best of me? You'll have to keep coming back to the blog to find out
I hope you enjoyed another Reliving the Classics blog post. Thank you for the support and stay safe out there gamers.
